The command gpm allows you to use your mouse on console windows. Its configurtion file is /etc/gpm.conf. The program gpm-test-mouse may help you configure your mouse (it didn't help me though:-(. Its best to be at the console when configuring gpm
gpm also relays the mouse messages to /dev/gpmdata. Its best to set repeat_type=raw in /etc/gpm.conf. This allows you to use the standard X mouse drivers for your mouse type.
